CERTIFICATION FOR GREEN BUILDING

DESIGN PROFESSIONALS

Green building is about to become the most important

environmental issue of our time.

The reason: Buildings account for most energy

consumption (76%), most greenhouse gasses (48%),

most overall pollution and landfill, and much of the

increases in allergies and respiratory diseases (due to

toxic materials and bad air handling systems).

Soon virtually all publicly-funded construction and

most private construction will have to be designed

to meet green standards and be certified

by Green Building Professionals.

People qualified to design, certify, or construct

green buildings are still a small minority

in the design professions.

So the demand and opportunities for certified green

building consultants are about to explode.

You can become a Certified Green Building

Professional by completing 24 units of our

design and green building classes through the

Fall/Winter/Spring 2008-2009 terms.

Green Building Design Professional certification will

be through SFIA and an accredited program of the

Berkeley Institute of Ecological Design.

LOCATION

All classes are held at SFIA, at our new, fixer-upper,
eco-retrofit location:

90 Bolivar Drive, at Aquatic Park in Berkeley. The school is at the foot of Bancroft Avenue, where it meets the waterfront of Aquatic Park. Aquatic park is approximately three blocks south of University Avenue and the University Avenue off-ramp from highway 80 (see Google map).

Parking is available along Bolivar and on Bancroft Avenues.

SFIA's new school is in the heart of Berkeley's "Green Gulch" - an emerging green neighborhood, with a concentration of enterprises within a mile or two, including solar power companies, a biodiesel fuel station, electric car distributorship, Berkeley Eco Center, Urban Ore building recycling center, and the offices of a growing number of green architects and builders.

NEW WAYS TO ACCELERATE YOUR EDUCATION AND REDUCE EXPENSES AT SFIA:
